Attaching the RealWear HMT to your chosen headwear

The RealWear HMT comes with an overhead strap as standard. While this does the job well, there are other options available that are more appropriate for the headwear you're using, making the device more comfortable and easier to use.

Realwear Workband
To fit the Workband, remove the rear head pad and over head strap from the HMT. Push the grey clips into the slots near the front of the HMT level with the camera and the boom arm.

Bump cap and tri-band strap
Remove the rear head pad and over head strap. Take the long section of the Tri Band Strap and loop it around the back of the frame on the HMT, secure the Tri-Band onto the HMT by clipping the button around the frame.

Take the two shorter sections, starting with the non-camera side, push the clips into the slot at the front of the HMT.

The HMT is now ready to be secure onto the bump cap. Take the HMT and push the strap over the top of the bump cap and tighten the straps.

Finally, there are two clips on the tri-band which are pushed up onto the bump cap where the brim of the cap starts.

The finished result will look like this.

Hard-hat
There are a series of clips available from Realwear to integrate with existing hard-hats. We do not provide the correct clips, you can download the templates to 3D-print your own or purchase a RealWear hard-hat to go with the HMT. Details can be found here

Once you have your hat and the correct clips, remove the over head strap and the rear head pad. Push the hard hat clips onto the slots by the camera on either side of the frame with the clips pointing upwards.

Push the clips into the slots on the hard-hat.

Turning the HMT on

Press the silver power button on the boom arm side of the device. Hold the button for 3 seconds before releasing. The HMT will start and you’ll hear a chime to confirm device power on.

Positioning the device

To have the optimal experience when using the HMT, it’s important to have the device placed correctly on you head. Follow the below the steps below:

Please note: Everyone’s vision is different. These are general instructions for first fitting. It’s important to adjust to fit yourself after, this is designed to use with glasses, safety googles, visors, and masks, but the adjustment will be different. The main things that need to happen is that the top pivot is pointing backwards and the display isn't obscuring your vision all the time.

Ensure the HMT is sat in the neutral position

Place the HMT on your head, making sure that the HMT frame is at a right angle to your ears, going across the middle of the back of your head. The camera should be level with your eye-line

Move the display pod into the centre of your vision

Ensure the display pod is a few centimetres in front of your eye and sits just below your view when you look straight ahead. The pod should sit a finger’s width off the cheekbone, angle the display pod upwards so that you can see the display clearly

Once this is done, adjust the display Pod until all four corners of the display are visible with no blurring. If you are wearing PPE, adjust the boom arm to accommodate it.
